Debut Single Spella Ruby Bertajuk Anthropoids
“Pola pikir ‘everything has to fit in a box’ tidak pernah masuk akal bagi kami berdua.

Anthropoids
We see ourselves beyond the rigged eyes
Of who call themselves adamant
No point on pinning matters into hand
Unsubstantiated deeming
Anthropoids
I listened for a long time now
Reeling feelings
Nothing mattered in the end
Picking up your syllables meant for nothing
You bore me
Upon this matter you just scatter your value
Repeat yourself and go over and over again
Pursue your persuasion
Forget consideration
Watch my eyes roll
Oh
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Never mind the absence of asylum
All the madness we can find before our eyes
Everyone seems to be on a race for gild
To mere display
Upon this matter you just scatter your value
Repeat yourself and go over and over again
Pursue your persuasion
Forget consideration
Watch my eyes roll
Oh
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel what is real?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel what is real?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel?
Can you no longer feel
Feel…
Spella Ruby
Formed in 2019 in Bandung, Indonesia, Spella Ruby, a moniker taken by lovers in arms singer/songwriter Chrissie Vanessa and drummer/producer Pratama Kusuma Putra (Sigmun, Mooner), is a cathartic, indefinitely-prolonged peek into their collective minds brandishing a more ripe and lush instrumentation hand-in-hand with Chrissie’s haunting, mature vocals.

Anthropoids
Artist Statement:
Anthropoids is an emotional representation of our frustration towards our generations society. Those with “everything has to fit in a box” mindset never made any sense to both of us. Overall, the song embodies a sense of rebellion towards the imperious, vain and dispassionate society.
As for how this song was written, I was playing random chords on keyboard and singing some random lyrics to it in Tama’s room, to which he then realized I was writing something and swiftly picked up his microphone and plugged in all the relevant equipments in order to record it.
Anthropoids consists of simple chords and blunt lyrics, to which i feel was just a random 3 a.m. rant while on the keyboard. But Tama felt otherwise…
We debated a little, whether we should record the song or not as I was planning to toss it out in the bin, but fortunately he was persistent of his instinct.. He began to reconstruct the song and started pairing it with different instruments.
Considering that this single is our pilot project, we are free to play around with all the possibilities. Tama binded together all the different sounds he was influenced by throughout his journey and created something completely different than the palette he was used to. This project turned to a playground for us to explore.

Label Notes:
A witty, apt usage of a song title, “Anthropoids” is the first ‘voice’ of lovers-in-arms Spella Ruby (singer/songwriter Chrissie Vanessa and drummer/producer Pratama Kusuma Putra), beautifully, and subtly, to some extent, singing their somehow-toned-down distaste towards the conformity of the rigid society. Translating visual gestures into bladed words, Chrissie Vanessa’s “Can you no longer feel?” might prove to be a powerful psychological shove to, I believe, even that mild-mannered father-of-two neighbour who always shows a big, grinning smile while holding the door for you. Generation gaps? Conflicting, nonsensical values, be it of their generations or others’, is the object of Spella Ruby’s beautifully masked, tired discourse in “Anthropoids”.
