We’re so happy to be releasing a new mix of indie rock and pop from Jakarta’s Afra Suci. Bracketed by Jakarta-based, indie bands, Peonies and Sunday Market District, this mix is a wonderful journey including some indie newcomers intertwined with Indie mainstays such as Low and Yo La Tengo. Read more about Afra and her inspiration for the mix below.
Next week, we will release a new mix of traditional Indonesian music from West Java archivist, Madrotter (Bandung / Rotterdam), followed in August by mixes from Joee & I (Manilla) and Ala Muerte (New York)!
Afra Suci’s Bio & Mix Inspiration
Afra Suci is a full-time digital rights supporter and a part-time playlist storyteller. She is part of the Jakarta-based shoegaze band, Sunday Market District (currently on hiatus). She loves to translate her take on movies, books and personal experiences into playlists. The mixtape that she dedicated to 100.000 narrates how love induces a fleeting feeling of euphoria and then evaporates instantly. She chose songs with contrasting bass lines, tender lyrics and mostly female vocals, that echo the subliminal parts of intimacy and ache when you are in love. This mix stimulates high emotional intensity while being lo-fi.
